Unless you have been developing for Apples OS X operating system for a while, you probably have no idea what Cocoa is. Quite simply it’s a framework, an object oriented application environment for writing software on OS X. An object says what? Never mind for now. Heard of .NET? It’s a similar concept, that’s about all you need to know for now.
I’ve been trying to learn Cocoa since I first purchased a 12″ powerbook in 2004. For some reason or another I’ve never really been all that successful with it. This probably has something to do with all the VB and C# .NET code they make me write at work.
Cocoa is not hard, at least what I’ve played with so far hasn’t been all that mind boggling, so I keep coming back to it. I’m going to start the journey again this year, and document it as I go, at least that way I will have a reference if I burn out and need to start over again. Hopefully someone smarter out there will pick up on any mistakes I make along the way and point me in the right direction. Maybe that smart person will be you?
